Expressions of Interest - eChildhood Protection Coalition

Organisations and invested individuals are invited to express interest to join the eChildhood Protection Coalition to Build a Connected Community.

eChildhood has framed a Public Health Approach and is calling on Australia to implement a public health response. Australia has an obligation to protect children, and this obligation is extended to children’s use of the internet.

The eChildhood Protection Coalition will ensure the key risk factors in implementing a Public Health Response are mitigated. The eChildhood Public Health Approach and key elements in a Public Health Response are outlined in the eChildhood Report: KIDS AND PORNOGRAPHY IN AUSTRALIA: Mobilising a Public Health Response (November 2019).

The eChildhood Protection Coalition creates, galvanises and mobilises support for a national public health response to prevent and address pornography harms on children and young people in Australia. Upon joining, key stakeholders are invited to participate in working groups representing the environments of:

  • Legislation and policy solutions
  • Digital solutions
  • Education solutions
  • Therapeutic solutions
  • Youth Panel

Working groups aim to gain a clear understanding of how the issue impacts key stakeholders in Australia, identify effective solutions and support efforts to mobilise solutions. The eChildhood Protection Coalition is a founding member of the Global Protection Coalition Connecting to Protect, working to support the implementation of a public health response internationally.

Key functions include:

  • Providing a space for stakeholders to share knowledge on the harms, client’s experiences (children, youth, parents & carers), sector needs in responding to this issue, and effective strategies undertaken.
  • Strengthening of multi-stakeholder institutions and environments via consultation within Working Groups and the eChildhood National Survey.
  • Harnessing key stakeholders to support or lead the mobilisation of solutions.
  • Ensuring a collaborative response is taken to address the issue nationally, whilst involving the varied sector and community needs.

Key outcomes include:

  • Increased community awareness through a national conversation (like that of online bullying and domestic violence).
  • Parents and carers equipped with information, resources and services to support children and youth around this issue.
  • Decreased concerns of children and youth relating to the impacts of online porn, and increased confidence to understand and engage in healthy and safe relationships.
  • Professional learning and resources for educators and wellbeing staff in schools and universities.
  • Accessible and targeted learning for allied health professionals where applicable.
  • Resources readily available to support. children and young people to build protective behaviours and resilience, and develop a Critical Porn Analysis lens.

Thank you for responding to the call to protect children in Australia.
